ToddSolondz.com Make-Over

You've probably already noticed that ToddSolondz.com has a new name and a bit of a new look. No? Well, it does; take my word for it. As per a request from the man himself, reference to his first feature film has been removed from the title of this site... The film's troubled production history, and his current disdain for it (I happen to think it's a pretty great film *shrug*) is certainly no secret... He even shared that Fear, Anxiety and Depression wasn't the title he originally wanted for the film (though he didn't care to get into what was).

So, anyway, I hope you all like the new/ name look... or at least don't hate it too much. The color scheme and a few other things still need to be incorporated into the other pages (like this one), and I'm sure I'll be making some other minor alterations over the next few weeks.  But, basically, this is it.  Enjoy your stay.  8-)

P.s. - In case you've been totally out of it this past month (hey, you're not alone), Palindromes has come out on DVD in both the US and the UK since the last update.

Solondz Appearing in New Jersey

Hey, fellow T.S. fans!  If you're in the New Jersey area (and, seriously, why wouldn't you be?), come and see him in person on Friday, September 30th.  He'll be speaking at The Last Picture Show film festival which I'm putting together in Metuchen, New Jersey.  I'll be there with my short film (Lunch Break - if you're interested, you can read all about it at: http://www.snowymtnproductions.com/lunch.htm), too.  ;)

All the details available at: http://www.lastpictureshowfest.com

Palindromes DVD Update

According to dvd.monstersandcritics.com, Palindromes' UK release date has been set for September 26. Wellspring has announced some DVD specs for both region releases.   Palindromes will be presented with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround 5.1 and DTS Digital Surround 5.1 sound. They say, "In accordance to the specific wishes of director Todd Solondz, no extras are included. However, this mazimizes the quality of both sound and vision."  What a disappointment!  Oh well.  I can't say I expected a loaded special edition, anyway... but, really, something would've been nice. Here're the covers for both:

...The UK release is being put out by Tartan, by the way (as you can see in the picture).

Palindromes DVD Date Announced

According to DavisDVD.com, Wellspring has just announced the release date for their release of Palindromes on DVD. It's September 13th. Apparently, the disc is still being worked on, so there are no specs available yet.  So, now might be a good time to write to Wellspring (at: movies@wellspring.com) and let them know how much of a loaded special edition you'd like.  For example, how about including Schatt's Last Shot?  Can't hurt to ask.  ;-)

Thanks to Daniel for spotting this one.

Just In Case You Haven't Been Paying Attention...

Palindromes is out and in theatres now.  The internet is over-flooded with reviews, interviews, and opinions on Solondz, Barkin, abortion... just way too much to attempt listing here... do a search.
So, go.  See the film.  Read articles 'till your eyes bug out.  Now's the time.  :)

Official Palindromes Websites Live

Wellspring, the company distributing Solondz's latest film in the US, has put up their official Palindromes web-site at: http://www.wellspring.com/movies/movie.html?movie_id=62.   It's pretty substantive, too, with a new interview with Solondz, the trailer, cast and crew bios, and lots of things previously posted on this site (::grin::), like the director's notes, statement, poster, images, etc.  It looks nice.
And now, the other Palindromes website, http://www.palindromes-movie.com/, is up and running, too.  It mirrors a lot of the same content (natch), but features some new stuff as well, including a look at all the Avivas in the film, a lot of flash animation, and a message board/ guest book thingy.  Looks nice.

Thanks to Daniel, yet again, for spotting this. 8-)
And double thanks to Daniel for spotting the follow-up, as well.

Palindromes Music Online

Nathan Larson, who, as previously reported, is once again collaberating with Todd Solondz on his latest film, has put up some of his Palindromes music for free download in mp3 format on his website, nathanlarson.com (under "film work").
Larson describes the film, "Another one from Todd Solondz , so you have the general idea. I happen to think it’s some of his best work, he takes massives risks here and pulls off stuff I don’t think I’ve ever seen done, including swapping out the actor for the main character every 10 minutes; for some reason it works beautifully. I got to rip off the ROSEMARY’S BABY soundtrack, collaborated again with my wife Nina, always a pleasure; plus it was the first feature I did almost entirely on the laptop with which I write you now, at the now defunct Globe Studios, overlooking the Meat Packing District in New York City in it’s final days. Once a strange, nasty, and wonderful area, it’s now one big high-end designer outlet mall like everything else. Anyhoo, PALINDROMES has been very well recieved at the usual round of festivals, and apparently it’s been sold, thank God, as Todd paid for it himself , thus risking total financial annihialtion. Balls. Thank god somebody already bought it, and the film is due out in the states in April 2005."
There's also music from most of his other films up for download... lots of good stuff.   So get the heck off of this site already, and go check it out (but be sure and come back): nathanlarson.com

Thanks to Daniel, again, for pointing this one out to me.

Official Palindromes Site and Trailer

The official Palindromes website is now up, though at the moment it's still a content-less hold page that says,
"Palindromes
A Film by Todd Solondz

Coming Soon"
...See for yourself at: www.palindromes-movie.com  I've added it to the links on the main page... Hopefully there'll be something a bit more substantive there soon.

Also, IFilm has posted the official Palindromes theatrical trailer, along with three one-minute clips from the film.  Check 'em out at: http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2653502?htv=12

"Props" to John for finding these.

Palindromes Release Date Set!

According to this month's Entertainment Weekly magazine, Palindromes is set to be released theatrically in the US on Wednesday, April 13, 2005. As reported here previously (10/13/04, Palindromes Sold; US Release), Wellspring has the US rights for Palindromes, and later plan to release this film on DVD in "late 2005."

Thanks to Daniel for spotting this and bringing it to my attention.
